On Saturday May 14th, 2011 a group of teens from Newark went to Nazareth College in Rochester to be a part of the Rochester Teen Book Festival (TBF). This free one day event brings together teen readers and authors of  popular teen books.

Stuck in Neutral won a Printz Honor Award

He thinks Beatle boots are still cool!

He was the youngest student in his class and the only student of color when he started college.

Charles has sat at the desk in the Oval Office while working alongside a photographer for Time Magazine. Bill Clinton was the subject. 

He has met all of the 50 greatest NBA players of all time, including Michael Jordan and Shaquille O'Neill!

He went to photography school

Fun facts about Shari Maurer:

* Shari met her husband when she was 17 while they were at sleep away camp!

* Shari's daughter was born with a heart defect (she is okay now), and that inspired her to co-write a nonfiction book for adults dealing with children who have heart defects.

*She got the idea for writing Change of Heart after she watched an episode of Dr. Oz that was about a teen girl who was in desperate need of a heart transplant.

* When she's really depressed she drinks Yoo-Hoo

*She has traveled to: Indonesia, Italy, Israel, Norway, Holland, Spain, Canada, France, Mexico, England, 6 Caribbean islands plus her honeymoon in Bermuda

* Shari used to work for International Sesame Street

Fun facts about Torrey:

*He loves chocolate SO MUCH that when he was in college he would buy nutty chocolate bars and hide them under his bed. He would wake up in the middle of the night, eat one, and then go back so sleep!

*Torrey was born and raised in the Red Hook Projects of Brooklyn, NY; the fact that he overcame the violence and poverty living there has greatly affected his writing and his outlook on life.

*He has taught in the NYC public school system for ten years

*On writing Secret Saturdays Torrey states: "I mixed my passion for writing and teaching and made Secret Saturdays, which can help young people better handle tough times and gives them an exciting read."

*He is very confident that no matter where he is, nobody in a five mile radius could beat him at handball or scrabble!

*When he was in high school he spent a summer working at a predatory bird rehabilitation center. He treated injured hawks, owls and vultures!
*Eric has lived in Albany since 1999, but he grew up in Springfield NJ, and lived in Seneca Falls for a while!

*After 9/11 he volunteered with the American Red Cross to aid injured rescue workers in the recovery efforts

*She lived without TV for over a decade but now has MANY channels (and still has trouble finding something to watch)

*She has a celebrity crush on John Stewart from the Daily Show
*Amy now lives in Pennsylvania with her husband and children

*She is a big fan of: corn on the cob, Kurt Vonnegut, nice weather, and fleece socks

-She just barely reaches 5 feet tall

-Jackie takes Tae Kwon Do lessons

-She believes that true love really does prevail... she married the man she had a crush on when she was a teenager!

-She has never read anything by Jane Austen (with or without zombies)

-Jackie grew up in New York City and now lives in Upstate New York

-She has a weakness for chocolate and tends to let her cranky cat take over her office chair
