visited us for a special Teen Time!

He talked to us about getting into the illustrating business
and shared some of his work with us. There were about 20 audience members!

*She was a flight attendant; she wrote her first book Faking 19 on long weather delays and layovers

*Her hair has been brown, orange, red, blonde, auburn, black, and purple (the purple was an accident)

*If she could go back in time she would travel to Renaissance Florence

*Ben has been been on a four month trip to South America, has flown over the North Pole, and has been swimming with dolphins!

*He has been on Jack Hannah's Animal Adventures on national television!

*Ben lives in a log cabin in Montana

*He adopted a black bear 25 years ago and raised it as his pet. Her name is Buffy and she is 7ft tall and weights over 700 pounds! Once, when Ben was getting a speeding ticket, Buffy reached out the car window and took the pad of paper away from the officer and ate it! The officer ran away and forgot about the ticket!

Ken Wheaton



will be joining us for a very special Teen Time tomorrow
from 3:00pm-5:00pm!

Ken is an accomplished cartoonist, illustrator, and educator.

Some of his comic book projects include:
Futurama
Bart Simpson Comics
Radioactive Man
The Phantom
Mister Magoo
Kolchak: The Night Stalker

*Ken also runs a workshop with writer Eric Churchill; this workshop is for students and teens who are interested in entering the field. It is in it's 8th year.

*Recently, some of Ken's cartoons have been featured in television advertisements for Toyota and McDonalds on the West Coast.

Barry Lyga
will be joining us for the Teen Book Festival this May!

Barry is the author of several books for teens. Some of these include:

He is also the author of a collection of short stories, comic books, and a non-fiction book about comic books!

*He graduated from Yale with a degree in English

*He wrote his first novel in High School (which he claims to be truly awful)

*He worked in the comic book industry for 10 years

*Barry has witnessed police interrogation through on-way mirrors (just like on TV!)

*He has three books that he is in the process of writing; one called Archvillian Book 1 will hopefully be released fall of this year; the second The Graphic Novel is planned to be released in Fall of 2011; the third The Monster has no set release date!

*When she was little, she wanted to be a trumpet player, a writer, an archeologist, and a unicorn; but she's pretty happy she stuck with being a writer.

*She says she still writes terrible first drafts, and that she still has a lot to learn about writing, but she loves it!

*Tea is an important part of her writing process.
